My very first 45 RPM record

Postby skorzeny » 17 years ago

I was 4 yrs old when Astroboy first came to U.S. TV in 1964.I was instantly hooked and he became my hero. Here in the greater L.A. area of Southern California, there used to be a bakery company named the Helms Bakery. They had a fleet of trucks and would sell their wares on neighborhood streets just like a milk man or Ice cream man does still. They had the best donuts ,breads and other baked goods. The smell would make you week in the knees when he opened the sliding shelves of goodies. The Cream puffs were to die for.The co bellied up in the late 1960's.Anyway,they had some kind of arrangement with whoever and sold 45 rpm records of the Astroboy theme song for 25 cents.I made mom buy me one,Yippee!I had a cheapie record player like everybody else had and proceeded to wear the grooves off of the record.I played it so often that both my parents and a few adult neighbors had it permanently burned into their brains and can probably still hear it in their dreams .All good things must come to an end and my record one day bought the farm.I was so upset that I did the only thing you could do.Turn it into a one shot frisbee!it flew great and blew into a million pieces so perfectly.Tim :astro:
