Astro's Cameo in "Laffin' Gas"

Last summer, I picked up a weird American comic at a local shop for a quarter, spotting it only because Astro's face was in the corner. It's about this guy who gets a weird video tape on his birthday that sucks him into a cartoon world, and he meets his favorite cartoon characters while collecting their comics. Astro showed up...

Here. "Hey mistah, you dlop some" is hardly a dignified line for our boy robot. But he turns into a giant robot and makes up for that.

Then the group keeps going, Astro disappears for a while, then shows up for a big battle scene that spreads two pages.
Page one (only his fist) and page two (here we go!)

Then he's gone again. In the end, the guy loses all the comics he's gotten in the cartoon dimension, but suddenly one comes in the mail with all the toons, Astro included.

Yes, it's weird. There aren't any other pictures of Astro, albeit really, really tiny scribs of him in the background that I had to look twice at.

BTW, this comic came out in 1988, around the time that the NOW! Comics edition was coming out.

They're working now. Don't know what was up but they're working now. Cool little find there. Maybe Astro talked like that because he wasn't so good at english.

Yessir! In fact, it was the first link up there.

Note the obnoxiously scrawled "25", made by the comic shop owner, who graciously destroyed any value this baby had.
