60s episode "The Super Duper Robot"

I'm watching this episode on Adult Swim.com right now and I can't help but laugh at the sad attempt to re-write this all in the attempt to dumb down the story for 60s children. Apparently in this story, people "travel far away in space" and they have robots built to look like them because they'll "never be seen again." They even have a special day for honor them called "Memory day." Now, they have a shot of little paper boats with candles going down a river. Anyone who knows basic Japanese culture (which I'm sure most didn't in the 60s) knows this a ritual to honor the dead. To make this even MORE amusing, two of the people we see need replacements are a very elderly man, and a little boy. I seriously doubt that even in the future, elderly men and nine year old boys become Space Pioneers.
So, if you know what you're looking for here, it's quite obvious that their actually dead and not "in space." I just had to poke fun at this. Any thoughts people?
