Weirdest Astro Boy Episodes?

Postby Fauna » 16 years ago

Out of all the episodes you guys have seen, which one would you guys say is the most bizarre or inexplicable? (I was also thinking of doing a new Toontown article, a top-ten one.)

Myself, I'd volunteer "The Girl From Alsoar", "The Death Balloons" or that 2003 episode with the giant farm.

But what would you guys say?

I would say "The Red Cat".
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

The Red Cat was indeed strange, as was the death balloons one. However my choices are "Astro Fights Aliens" for the 80's series and for the 2003 series I have to say "The Case of the Phantom Fowl" both were very strange episodes that I personally think were too abstract from the general flow of the series, not that they were bad episodes, just..... well weird. But who doesn't like weird... at least some weird.

I found the premise of The Return of Queen Cleopatra to be a weird one. No Dr Elefun, no Daddy Walrus, or anyone else normal. Astro's just in the middle of Egypt on some random mission because someone wrote him a letter. Don't robots get in trouble for leaving their own countries?

Don't know about episodes, but I read a manga where he had to fight giant slugs and ended up actually just pouring salt all over them. And then of course, there was the one where he fought a robot that peed Nitroglycerin XD

Of the latter of those, you may mean "Astro Vs. Atlas", where Guiss gave Atlas the power of "pee bomb", and Atlas later blew up Skunk & Guiss's castle.
Yes, that was rather disturbing.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. My brother suggested "Red Cat" as well.

One can assume he asked permission. But yes, that was weird.

What about the 2003 episodes in which Astro communicated with a tree?

Now that I think of it, almost all of the episodes are really weird. Of course, this is science-fiction. How about "The man made solar sphere"? A human head on a robot body, I mean how did they manage to get blood circulating into his brain?

As I have seen the entire corpus except most of the live-action episodes and the Shinsen Gumi film, I should have some really weird ones to share here, but off hand, I would say that 190 Miracle of Mesopotamia would be one of the top 5. I know you have not seen it, so I will try to describe it. Ato enters a portal to a world in which 2D cretures that resemble doodles on a black board live along side 3D from our world. Ok, I will put up a thread with a few images so you can better understand. :p

I believe I have seen something similar in another anime back in the 80s. Maybe it was inspired by Tezuka?
