In response to a new member's PM request for info, here is a very brief description:

Chi-tan or 'Chitan' is the family's newest member. I quote the episode description from the T@W website:
The king and queen of Family Kingdom are distressed at not being able to have a baby. So they decide to adopt a baby robot that wins a contest. Dr. Ochanomizu also participates in the contest with his robot, but...

To continue from the 'but' Dr. Ochanomizu made the mistake of allowing Uran to see this robot baby, and she became very attached to him. She even tried to sabotage his chances of winning the contest, hoping that she would have him as a baby brother. To add to this, one of the other contestants abducts all the other robot babies in hopes of winning by default.

Uran does her best to attract attention of anyone who should rescue them: http://wotan.homelinux.com/fafner/Aaaaaah.mp3

Once Atom rescues the babies, the contest begins. While the queen bends down toward another baby, Chitan crawls over and pinches the queen's bottom. Uran is elated, thinking that the queen would never choose Chitan after he had pinched her, but she does anyway.

Now that I think of it, I created a thread about this episode, & it does have images. :d oh:165 A Great Fuss Over Babies

So, except for the gathering of these animated gifs, this thread is redundant! :hyo:

I suspect that Chitan is based upon Sweetpea (from Popeye cartoons), and was rendered as Melchi in the Jetter Mars series:

Thank you so much. I'm sorry to have bothered you like that. Apparently Chi-Tan also appeared in a chapter of the original manga which has since been lost, but this is just a hunch from scant Wikipedia information, so don't take my word on that one.
You know, I can't wait for this book of yours, Jeff -- I'd love to get info about other 'neglected' Astro Boy characters :)

It is not that you bothered me, MangaBottle, only that such a request was not something that ought to be private. I have no problem sharing my knowledge, in fact, I am happy to do it. Feel free to make any further inquiries. :p

I am working on these also, but it is very time consuming. If you named a few specific characters, I am sure I could help.

Ah, I'm fine for now, I'll wait for the book. Any idea when it'll be ready? And on a different note, since you seem to know a bit about the 60's eps that weren't translated, may I assume that you understand Japanese?

1. None whatsoever.
2. No, just a few words; however, Tezuka tells his stories visually, so it is often quite easy to understand the plot. Also, there is the episode guide for all but 2 of the 193 episodes & many were based upon manga stories that I had read in the Dark Horse / Fred Schodt translations.

The Wayback machine has archives of many web pages, including this one:

http://web.archive.org/web/20080121124924/en.tezuka.co.jp/anime/sakuhin/subtitle/ts002.html

Note that it goes from 178 to 181, skipping 179 & 180. My only thought about this omission is that Tezuka particularly disliked the Blue Knight story & perhaps the omission was in respect of that. However, if that were true, then the 2003 series would have been about something other than the Blue Knight, which was its overall story.

BTW, the page for the 1963 series itself is here:

Sorry that most of the images are absent. :p irate:

Well, Tezuka wasn't actually alive to oversee the making of the 2003 anime, so...

Nor was he alive to oversee the making of the website. :p
