NOW! Comics Astro Boy - Issue Six

It's been a long time coming, but I finished scanning the sixth issue! I'm probably just in time to reintroduce this, seeing as the new members might not be familiar with this weird comic series...however, I've still got the complete scans up here, so feel free to go through those!

Man, this issue was a severe downer. :( Astro's acting unbelievably angsty and violent all of a sudden. Also, the side stories with I.Q. Plenty and the general riff-raff are going nowhere.

Also, I wish they'd put Skunk in the comic further on down the road, since their homemade villains were awful, and he could pound them any day. It's sad that NOW! Comics thought of the 80's series so badly (even if they did take a variety of things from it)... :whistling:

My usual walkthrough is coming soon! I warn you, there's some of my usual "hell" and "damn", and a picture of Dr. Boynton dressed as Dr. Frank N. Furter, but that'll make sense later.

Well, here it is. I also felt I should tone down the language, so there's only one "hell" in the whole thing.

Guys, disregard the link-back picture at the end...there's a bit of a long story behind it.

There's this guy on "Thatguywiththeglasses.com" who calls himself "Linkara." He reviews bad comics. We should totally get him to review some of these XD

Guys, I don't know if this is the right place, but I would like to announce the start of a special collaboration...

The NOW! Comics Challenge!

For the seventh issue's review, being that there will be a hiatus for a while afterwards, I'd like to do a special bonus page featuring multiple artwork by as many people as I can get. The challenge is to:

A) Take a scene that you like from any movie, manga, TV series, etc. you like - bonus points for Astro Boy episodes
B) Recreate it in 2-10 panels, and draw it in Ken Steacy's style (more commonly referred to as the "NOW! Comics style")
C) Since I don't know when I'll be able to complete the semi-final review, the due date for submissions will be in mid-January.

To show what I mean, I shall proceed to experiment on something close to me...

(Note: This kind of plays on how Kenji Murasame was named "Dick Strong" in the english version of Tetsujin 28 in 1964. NOW! always liked using the "original" names in their incarnations.)
This stuff is actually pretty dangerous...I almost drew a larger picture with the whole Giant Robo cast in this style, but I had to stop.

Anyhow, you guys let me know if you're interested in joining this! The page will have your names and links to your website or dART page, of course!

Ken Stacy thought he was so hot, I mean the guy in person was a "beep" and he wanted money for his autographs too.

AS I SUSPECTED--

Ken Steacy never came off as that nice a guy from the few times he wrote in the issue's opening column, and the time when he included himself and Andrew Pratt as background characters. But that autograph thing really blows it...I am never paying out more than fifty cents to someone whom is writing their name on a scrap of paper.

Thanks for sharing, Fauna.

I can empathize with people who are pestered by everyone they meet for autographs. My arthritis makes my own writing difficult. Though I would not think Steacy was sufficiently well-known to be hounded everywhere he went. His demanding $ for autographs seems a bit egotistical.
