The blue core

Postby Laughing Dragon » 15 years ago

I've been thinking about the new fueling agent for Astro that was introduced in the film...the blue core. I think it was a great idea. Naturally, the old nuclear fuel couldn't be used, given modern sensibilities...and the idea that the core came from a falling star gives Astro an almost magical quality, and makes it more believable that he's more than an average robot. The power of the blue core can apparently heal, give life to "dead" objects (like Zog and Cora's cell phone) and has self-sustaining, unlimited energy that can be freely shared with others without weakening its owner. I really like all those qualities. And in the film, the core's glow added a measure of beauty as well (in the scene when he's reviving Zog, you can see the core's blue glow shine through Astro's shirt, kind of like E.T.'s heartlight. Sooo cool).

It'd be great if the core's power was explored in a little more depth in any sequel...that is, if there WERE going to be a sequel...sigh...

Somebody in a thread here said the movie picked up more theaters so maybe there will be a sequel. I hope there is. There is so much more that can be told from the movie.

I'm glad they kept the concept that you don't get something good without something bad (Nice blue extract, mean red bi-product)

Let's keep our fingers crossed about overseas revenue. Hopefully England in particular will embrace the film.

I'm optimistic. I'm not completely ruling out a sequel until we see how DVD/Blu-Ray sales go. I've seen movies get sequels due to that. Merchandise sales too
And yes. I liked the Blue Core concept as well. I felt that the Nuclear energy may have been futuristic in the 1950s, but that was over 50 years ago and is now a little out dated.

I'm not sure if this matches the thread too much, but it does regard you comment. I'm actually the head of a project on DeviantART to get a sequel made, where we, the fans, are trying to do everything possible to get a sequel made. Heck, I'm currently working on writing a story, and doing character concepts, and tons of other stuff! Wanna support, or at least take a look?

Although I must admit that there's not a lot up yet. ^^; Forgive me for that. The project still has A LOT of work to do! ;)

I'm all for a sequel, of course. But I think that the best way we fans could make that happen is to spread the word to people about how good the movie is, make as much noise as possible about it, and then buy the DVD when it comes out. I like your DevArt page, BTW.

Yeah, that's part of the plan. And thank you! Did you look at just the project, or my main account?

Well, why not take a look at my main account? That's where all the good stuff is (Of course, it's not all Astro Boy-related, but still). ;)
