You're largely correct. Most of the time, voice artists record their lines separately, (and often they say the same line over and over again, with different inflections and emphasis) and then an editor splices the various performances together afterward. But sometimes voice actors DO work together; for instance, Billy Crystal and John Goodman recorded their lines together for their work as Mike and Sully on Monsters Inc. - it was thought they'd have more chemistry that way. Apparently, Imagi thought the same about Freddie and Kristen.
