I was looking at my large collection of Astro Boy images when I spotted something odd about two screencaps from the classic color series. It appears that Astro is in the same pose in this screencap from the theme song:

as he is in this screencap from the episode Atlas Lives Again:

Odd? Definitely! So what are your thoughts?

yes, animation back then even in the 80's were still done on cels. and that some animation company's or studio's use old animation cels to save on money and time instead of making a new cel all together. so if you take the original astroboy in the 60's there was lots of cels being used over and over again and again. you see before mushi productions went belly up the animators used the old animation to save on money and to produce the show quicker. for that reason they put out a show every week and the old saying gose back then in japan is that if there was no one out side playing then you know they were inside watching astro boy.

I believe this is called the Bank System; it consists largely of foreground transparencies that they scale, shade, & use over various background images. as an example, in the B&W, every time people flee in a mad panic, they use the same cels, the same sequence. There is an old guy in the audience scenes who seems to be saying, "hit him again, sonny" or perhaps, "way to go!" as he swings his fist. I have seen him in perhaps, 3 or 4 episodes.

A lot of Anime and cartoons do this, it was once in the news paper that Disney even did it.

Ah yes, the famous rear end machine guns pose. I never noticed how they used it twice until now. Interesting.

All I can say is it's a GOOD THING Astro Boy can't pass gas or the world would be a much more dangerous place!
