Is it me or does every new incantation of Astro have more and more powerful weapons? I mean the kid's becoming a flying swiss army knife!

Now there's an idea, make his left hand a Swiss army knife..."Here's my cork screw (thumb) My fork (middle finger) My fishing line attachment (pinkie)

What next? Soon our hero will look like Mega-man.

I would really like it if astro got new weapons every 20 or 10 years because u know the show comes back every 10 or 20 years

They had to make him keep up with contemporary expectations; I thought the X-ray vision in the '03 was really going too far, but the plasma cannon was iffy.

Maybe, though in the movie we noticed that Xray vision wasn't exactly unique. Tenma built his service robot with it.

Its certainly to remain contemporary though. I think it may have been included simply as an explaination for his advanced analytical skills

I think it simply helps to show he's "advanced" by modern standards the machine guns may seem a little out of date... or at least not scifi enough. If the "butt guns" weren't so famous we may have already seen them upgraded to plasma. I think that is likely why they weren't included in the 03 series..... other than the fact they are rather strange.
