2003 Astroboy manga - English-ified and online (kinda)

****See post #2 for Chapter 1 download.****

SO, started working on the 2003 Astro Boy manga.

Let me delve a bit into the process I'm going through with this:

First of all, I am unable to scan my books. This is because A.) My scanner is one of those copy/fax/printer ones that you have to put the paper down the tray to scan, so I'd have to rip out the pages to scan them...which I won't do...
...and B.) The English (Australian) version has no inside margins. Therefore, half the text would be illegible anyway...

SO, I acquired some Chinese scans (That have the inside margins - yay!) and are currently manually inserting the English text.

Annoying? You bet it is.

Is it worth it? I'd like to think so.

Anyway, I am currently about half-way through the first chapter and wanted to give you all a sampling of it to whet your whistles.

Hope you can all read it okay.

PS - When inserting text, I may make a few grammatical changes. I don't know what Chuang-Yi's deal is, but they word some things very oddly...so, I will make some things more understandable.

When I finish a chapter, I will put it up for download. When I finish a volume, I'll put it all in a zip file for download.

If I'm slow, please bear with me, photoshop has not been friendly recently...

Anyway, enjoy.

Finished chapter one before I hit the hay.

Zip file - 7.14 MB

I'll probably try to finish the rest of the volume before I post anymore.
This is very tiresome... But, at least I don't have to translate it!!

(Although, Chuang Yi may want to fire some editors - I found two places where they emptied two text bubbles and I had to make up something to put in them...just in this chapter!!! <can you guess which ones they were?> Also, civilization was misspelled in the manga, lol. )

NOTE: The manga never mentioned Magnemite by name, so I did wherever I could. :D Take that!!!

...'nite. ZZZzzz...

Yeah, you read it like Japanese comics.

As for the goldfish part, I didn't even delete what was already in the speech bubbles because it was the same in the English version. Just the "..." bit, so I guess he was just really upset...

...heck, if someone shoved a dead goldfish in my face, I probably wouldn't say anything, either.

No prob. Still diligently working on the rest! *goofs off again*

Akira Himekawa are a fantastic team. I really envy their artistic abilities...if you haven't already, you should check out their Legend of Zelda mangas. (At least they are no strangers to adapting great works, huyuk!)

I want you to pause in posting new images, while the mods discuss this. Because there is a licensed English version, I hesitate to let this continue. :p

I do understand your reasoning for this, but honestly, unless you live in Australia, the English version of this manga is extremely hard and expensive to come by. My books alone almost set be back a cool $60 American.

Unless it is released in America or the UK, I didn't really think it was too much of a problem.

BUT, whatever your judgment is, that's totally cool.
