Animation Test: Strong Student
So there are 5 steps to animating.
Step 1 is script (of course) where they'll write out what will be said and will happen. Just like is done for a tv drama or movie.

Step 2 is storyboards, this is where an artist will come in and draw what's on the script into many pictures that are pinned on boards to show a detailed idea of how it could play out. This storyboard is from the beginning of the movie in the classroom.

Step 3 (this video) is where they take what's on the storyboards and put it in a basic format. Meaning they set the scene, where the characters will do, basic gestures or face expressions along with where they'll put the cameras for that scene. You notice also they use lower quality of models for this, again this is for the reasons above. Think of them as skeleton models for the inside of a mold.

Step 4, this is when animators will come in an work over Step 3, creating fluent body motions and face expressions using the character models used for the final movie.

Step 5 lastly is where they add in the layors of texture, shading and lighting to create the final result that is in the movie.

Isn't animating fun!
