Looky!! Don't fret . . . sounds like it's a small book. I have the "graphic novel" but I was looking for the novel adaptation of the movie, too. The review doesn't sound terrific though

Synopsis
Set in futuristic Metro City, Astro Boy follows the story of a young robot who was created by a brilliant scientist in the image of the son he has lost. This novel is based on the new animated film, includes 8 pages of full-color images from the movie, and is written by New York Times bestselling author Tracey West.
Children's Literature
Astro Boy is made in the image of Dr. Tenma's dead son Toby, but when the robot is activated by his creator/father the doctor realizes his mistake. A robot cannot replace a son in his father's heart. Unfortunately, robotic Toby does not understand he is a robot and is heartbroken by his father's rejection. His father's closest friend and ally, Dr. Elefun, tries to help the robot, but Toby ends up being shoved over the edge of Metro City and tumbles down the earth's surfacea huge wasteland of broken robots and the people who survive the trash heap. After helping the human children of the junk yard get rid of the evil man, Toby admits to being a robot. He and the children go back up to Metro City and save it from destruction at the hands of the evil, egocentric President Stone, who wants to put bad energy into the Peacekeeper weapon. Toby realizes his destiny is to save the world from disasters and takes the name Astro Boy. Since Toby does not change his name until well into the book, I found it confusing to have him called Astro Boy at the beginning of the book. I did not think the book was well written, but if it is going to get children to read then I guess it has a place.
