Astro Boy Flatlines Video Uncut

Click here to sob your heart out

In both the comic and novel version, when Astro is deactivated by his dad, a heart monitor is going off that flatlines when his core's removed. This wasn't included in the movie (maybe as not to upset younger kids) and instead the heart monitor only appears when Tenma reactivates Astro. Even then, the flatline is shown only for about a brief second.

From reading the comic (found on this page here)and hearing about how awesome the novel is by a certain sweety dude (TetsuwanAtomu I <3 u), it made me wonder how it might've looked in the movie. That's why I edited this together.

I worked the beeps into the scene, so pay close attention and you'll see where and why it speeds up. As they say, beeps speaker louder than words.

So what are your thoughts? Does the scene have more emotional impact with the heart monitor left in or did Imagi do a good thing removing it? =3

And I REALLY wanted to stick a joke in at the end, but I had to restrain myself. I don't like being serious! @_@

That was EXACTLY the way the movie should have been presented. What Tenma did was horrific, and those beeps drove it home in a BIG way. *still sniffing*

And what is the very last thing he says as the flatline beep starts?

"Dad"

Oh, God -- that's BEYOND sad - that's kind of like the way I feel on Good Friday or something!! I mean HOW can he "off" that sweet, innocent child??
(have to keep remembering, it turns out okay in the end!)

The beeps should have been in the movie, the scene would have been so much better

 I know. I figured if you were about to have your heart taken out by your dad and never wake up then of course you'd be frightened. Despite how sad it is, I did enjoy adding those beepys.

You should see what else I'm cooking up ;)

You are my hero, LittleAcorn!! I can't wait to see what's next! :w00t:

And your comment on YouTube is worth considering. Yes, a lot of us grew up not realizing that "Astro Boy's" name was really Atom (in fact I NEVER heard him referred to as "Astro" without the "Boy"). And we didn't know he was Japanese, either.

But we DO now, and we STILL love him and he deserves to be his complete, original self. Maybe that 2009 movie WOULD have done better if they had simply called it "Atom" and let the viewers seek out the "Astro Boy" of the past on their own.

Also would have helped to have more publicity, and not release the film a week before Halloween. :whistling:

(tears off jacket and is wearing a superhero costume beneath) Little Acorn! At your service! ^________^ With my sidekicks Fuzzy Snuffle Wuggle and Muffin-Chan!

Yeah, I mean in the Pluto manga he is called Atom. Wonder why they didn't stick with it on this film. As for the publicity, least Imagi admits that they were in the wrong releasing it at that time, which is a good thing I guess. But still... Really wish there'd been a sequel.

Which novel are you referring to? There were at least two novels put out about the movie, as I recall...
