I was going to post this on the thread with the Uran tasting thing, but I thought it made sense to put it in a thread of it's own. Honestly, I blame maths for this.
Let's take a look at the time differences between this episode Space Academy (Robot in Love) to see with how much is lost. I picked this one because most of the censored clips are at the start.
English Part 1
English Part 2
Introduction: 58 Seconds
In Episode Footage: 19 Minutes 5 Seconds
Ending Theme: 20 Seconds
Total Time: 20 Minutes 13 Seconds
Japanese Part 1
Japanese Part 2
Japanese Part 3
Introduction Time: 1 Minute 35 Seconds (title included)
In Episode Footage: 20 Minutes: 33 Seconds
Ending Theme Time: 1 Minute 30 Seconds (with next Episode preview)
Total Time: 23 minutes 38 Seconds
According to this, 1 Minute and 28 Seconds of footage was censored from this one episode (not including introduction and ending). This can sometimes be from simple cuts (like Astro running, someone opening a door) as to stay within the time limit of the English episodes; or to larger cuts on themes they believed little kids might be offend by...like Astro playing with toys =_=.
The times often vary, but if about a minute or so is lost from 1 episode each and there are 49 episodes (face it, that one with Tenma was just a fill in x_x) also including the cut episode of Eternal Boy, then we're robbed of about 3 and half episodes of footage. That's including the 2 introduction sequences, 3 ending sequences, all the series music (which was A LOT), the cut screen size and all dialogue and storyline changes.
...*twitch* :d oh: And you wonder why I don't like the English version.
