Two questions/points here ladies and gentlemen

I was just wondering if someone can enlighten me. When Photar is explaining to the children that he has to 'go away for a little while' he mentions 'I am a Photon robot, the sun gives me limitless energy, I cannot lose!'.

Why would he think he cannot lose? Does the sun power him up to unlimited horsepower? Does it just enable him to keep going and going and going like the energiser bunny without having to recharge (like Astro)? Or does it give him Wolverine-type powers (seen at the end of the very disappointing third X-Men) where Jean is literally flaying him alive but he keeps repairing all the injuries he's suffering?

Moot point I know since the battle takes place during a thunderstorm.

My second point is that Bruton is a dishonourable opponent. Attacking your opponent at their weakest and when they are preoccupied with something far more important (like saving a little boys life). I mean I know he's not about to say at the start of each fight "look, bit of advice, see these things sticking out of my head? Electric!" but the Mt Blanc and Photar fights werent I think overly fair.

Well basically from what I remember and understand the energy collected from the rays of the sun was designed to give him some sort of special power that would have been stronger than even Bruton. So theoretically he was Bruton's match.

And yes Bruton is dishonourable. He insisted on meeting to fight on a dark and rainy day. He knew all about that special power of Photar's. Furthermore Mt Blanc's fight was as dirty as it could have ever been. Bruton did not announce he was issuing a challenge. Just took advantage of his first battle before the news about him was out to pounce and destroy Mt Blanc before he knew what was happening. He had no chance to use whatever powers he had for defence at all.

Well, in my opinion he's a kind of solar-powered robot, and he receives horsepower by sunlight. So Photar doesn't really have a 'set' horsepower, it varies on his sunlight. He is stronger than Bruton but also weaker than Bruton depending on the amount of sunlight he receives and the weather.

And yes, you could say that Bruton cheated his way to the top. Photar didn't know Bruton's powers, but yet Bruton knew about his. Hardly seems fair to me. And yes, the Mont-Blanc fight was also as unfair. But Bruton didn't want his battle to be fair - his only goal to me is to destroy the strongest robots and fulfill his role (and refuses to do anything else, claiming 'I am a battle robot'). He never shys away from a battle either, such as when he knew that Bora would defeat him plain and simple. Remember how he says to Molnar "Its nothing personal. I was ordered to do so" or something along the lines of that, I think to him battling is the only thing he cares about. The battles weren't so 'structured' either (except for the one with Astro on the mountain of tears) and Bruton didn't care how - that includes cheating - he defeated them, he just wanted them gone. Naturally a robot as dirty as Bruton would go for the weakness - cheating if you ask me - but Bruton I don't think really cared. Just my opinion.

I think you're exactly right. There's nothing about bruton's profile to suggest he serves any other purpose but to destroy the selected robots. It's interesting that even with his superior strength and power that he would wait for a thunderstorm (which incidentally in Australia would be a lonnnnnng wait) before fighting photar. Also if he is so amoral or neutral in his attitude, why let astro go? His comment that brondo was a 'fine robot' leads to pause for thought as well....did he regret what he was made to do? Or was he just paying respect? This episode is chock full of plot holes big enough to drive a wwI Krupp heavy howitzer through (though probably not as big a plot hole as guy pearce's ability to remember he has a condition that renders him incapa le of creating new memories in memento). For example why did abra put the suicide bomb in Before sultan suggested it? Or why was abra so certain astro would beat bora?why didn't ziron loosen his grip on the horns? Why didn't astro just fly away from the oilfield? How does plugging a volcano with rocks stop an earthquake? Is it bruton or (As ahbrA says it) 'Bru-tahn'? Why destroy bruton anyway since he's gone good? Why did he not remove Uran for the fight with molnar?(geez it wouldve been like being in a tumble dryer)....and sorry last one......what on earth happens to molnar's baseball-mitt arms during the fight? Does anyone else think he looks like a caterpillar when he's stuck to the mountain?

I was going to say just that. It is uncharacteristic of him. It doesn't really fit in the story. Although, he did mention Uran as a reason, so perhaps he was against Astro but was able to show some kind of love towards those who weren't among his targets. I suppose it is also to show the viewer that Astro's nice gesture of pushing Bruton's button (I should never try to say those two words aloud...) to warn his master may have triggered a change in his mind, but he doesn't really seem to change afterwards.

He may have; after all, he decided he didn't want to fight Astro in the end.

Because he wanted to destroy Bruton; that's how I understood it.

I have always wondered. I have tried to picture Abra watching Astro running out of energy while remaining calm and telling himself "no problem, he's just going to beat Bora anyway". I can't!

I suppose he was a lot more confident against Molnar than against Brondo.

Never thought of that. But, as long as he has some kind of arms, I think he looks like a centipede.
