What's up with Astro Boy vol. 23, or atleast the final volumes?...

When I ask that question I mean it. Being a long time fan of Tezuka, after having ordered so much Tezuka stuff and being inspired by his art... because I too am an artist ( http://alexcat321.deviantart.com/ ), I decided to see if he had reached his artistic peak with the final volumes of Astro since I had already gone through a great deal of the first volumes by Dark Horse. SO, I got the 23rd volume and once I began reading I was displeased with what I saw. Tezuka had gone from intruiging stories to doing these short little 5 page gags that really even looked different than his older work. His style was a bit more "present day" with the panel layouts, but these little humorous stories and gags was not the way I thought the manga series would be brought to a close (although I haven't read up to vol. 23, this was an experiment to see how the comics looked in the final volume.) So, what are you guys' thoughts on this change he made from his long detailed stories to the short little comedies and moral tales.

As it says in the postface, these are the manga made for a magazine for second graders. It was also originally in color, like with the 80's series that it was based on. They knew it would look odd to finish the manga on this though, so the very last chapter of the book is actually the real last Astro Boy chapter that was made before this final series.

Yeah, I actually read the preface, but the way they worded it was fairly vague, but thanks for the enlightenment.. Sad to see though that Astro had to come to an end.
