For all of us who've seen the 2003 anime of Astro Boy...and the 1980's...and possibly the 1960's version as well, we know that Uran was built for Astro by Dr. Elefun. Uran is spunky, can have a little bit of an attitude, and likes to occasionally annoy the crap out of her brother. She also has a sweet, girlish side, which is more evident in the 2003 version than it is any of the other series. My question is...what would she have been like had she been built by Dr. Tenma instead? What would be different about her do you think? Would she still only be partially as strong as Astro or do you think he'd have given her more powers? Most importantly, as his DAUGHTER...would she get along with him?

The reason I ask this is because I'm planning on writing a fic centered around this idea relatively soon after I finish my other story "Lifted" on fanfiction. net, and I'm curious to know what other people think about this idea. Looking at the anime's, the 2003 especially..I noticed that Tenma and Astro don't look anything alike at all. Almost to the point of making me question Tobio's erm..parentage. But then I started thinking in accordance with the story. Maybe the reason Tobio didn't look anything like Tenma was because he took after Hoshie, his mother. Maybe, before she died, Toby got really close to his mother because Tenma was always at work, slaving away over cold robots. Which means that not only does Tenma not look like his son..but he doesn't really know him either. Hence the constant disagreements over things! Maybe if he built Uran, he'd be closer to her because he'd be living under different circunstances and be able to get to know her better. What say you guys?

I dunno, in my opinion she seemed quite girly in the 1960's series, if not ditsy, really...

Thinkin' along the lines of when Astro boy originated, I'm prone to believing that if Tenma had built Astrogirl instead of Elefun, she would still be the same spunky brat, possessing only half of the power that her big brother sports. It's the whole stereotype thing, I guess.
As a daughter to Tenma, I think they would have had nothing but quarrels! A rebellious brat versus a scientist without a single once of humour... yeeeeaaaah....

So whattaya say, is Astrogirl going to be a new years gift or b-day gift for big brother Astro?

I think he would have built her to resemble Hoshi in both appearance and nature (but then we can also safely assume Astro resembles Hoshi, 'cause he sure ain't no Tenma!).

Now COBALT does kinda resemble Tenma - tall and skinny, which I find interesting. I always figured that maybe Cobalt was built to look like Tobio a few years later in his life to make up for the time between his death and new life as a robot; boys that age tend to mature suddenly - so it's conceivable that Tobio might have grown considerable in a year or so.

So maybe both Astro and Cobalt do resemble their father more that we realize . . . hmmmm . . .

Now Uran . . . somehow I don't picture being as frivolous as she comes across - if Tenma had built her. I picture her equal in protective strength to Astro, but maybe more "lady-like" powers: perhaps telekenesis or special sheilds, but the jet boots seem like a must, and being Cobalt didn't have them, it seems any Tenma bot after Astro would simply HAVE to have them. I would say they (and his strength) are his most important attributes.

@Novacain- About how she'll come into the story..well..I had kind of a wierd science fictiony idea for that. An idea I hope no one thinks is too nutzo or 'out there'.

@April Seven- You're right. O.o Cobalt does sort of look a little bit like Tenma. I'd never noticed that before. I'm not sure I could see her being given rocket boots though, but all the other powers sound interesting. I used to imagine her having super speed. lol And smoking her poor brother in every foot race.

I believe that if Zoran had been raised by Tenma she probly wouldn't be as bratty and she would be more lady like. Then again we don't know if Tenma loved his little daughter and spoiled her rotten. So there is one way that she is more polite and elegant, and another that she is even more rude and snotty. Good Luck with your writing SpaceCookie.

At the same time, Tenma did raise Tonio/Astro (depending on the version), but he didn't manage to bend him to be what he wasn't So not sure he would have made Uran into what she isn't. It may even lead to an epic clash :d evil:
