Does this guy look familiar?

I was transcribing some Japanese subtitles from the Astro Boy '03 episode #27 "Famous Detective Higeoyaji" the other day, when I encountered this character. I was thinking: "hang on, couldn't this be...?"
Have a good guess.

I'm thinking either Kim Sankaku or... Gilis I think his name was.

EDIT: lol! Apparently both are the same actor. Pretty surprising considering they both appear in the 1980's series.

Yeah, it's Kin Sankaku, also known as "Mandrake the 4th" from the the 80's series (english dub). :astro:

I didn't know that an important schoolfriend of Tezuka stood model here, very interesting!
His dubbing as Mandrake in the 80's series was priceless. :D

It was just a lark that I googled his subbed name for the 1980 dvds, in which the name is translated rather than merely transliterated (Kin Sankaku); he is named after the South East Asia opium trade: Golden Triangle! Note that in his early appearances, he has an opium pipe, though he traded it for a long cigarette holder in later ones.

Note that since the film version of METROPOLIS, he has been taking roles as non-villains. :p

Now that you have mentioned it, I remember actually having typed his name:
金三角
Kin San Kaku

His name was within a long row of Kanjis, thus it hasn't occured to me in the first place.

Doesn't he smoke an opium pipe when he enters appearance in the 80's AB episode 'The Monster Of Clarken'?
Or perhaps it's a hookah?

I fondly remember Kinsankaku from the USA arc of Stories of Astroboy, where he acts as a good guy who fights all kinds of racism and helps building Astro both in body and soul and encorauging him to fight for a better world for all human races and robots. I loved how Tezuka used one of his generally villanous characters to cause an unsettling sensation to the reader, though I think using Ham Egg or Skunk would have been even better (but Ham Egg was predestined to be the Robot Circus owner) .

Lamp also had a non-villain role in a remake of Ivan the fool; I think he was Minya's boyfriend: 142 Minya’s Star (-- --). In this, as one of the marooned passengers, he comes across Minya's grave, & weeps.

And a lot of times in Black Jack: as bad-news but kind hearted Detective Tomobiki, as a catholic priest in a chapter where girl marries Black Jack in a false ceremony, as the only patient who he couldn't save... but Mother Nature did, that outlaw in love (a fifty-fifty part), and - his best part. He's very funny in there - the hardcore fan of the violinist played by Frankenstein, where he helps BJ and another guy to rescue the Stradivarius risking their lives for "Art Gratia Artis".
