Well, I don't know how to contact Tezuka Productions, but at least the Mushi Production website has an inquiry form, so I thought we should discuss what to suggest to them in order to get more of Tezuka's anime translated.

My favorite idea would be that they do like Aniplex USA, that is, release products on Blu-ray in Japan (which work on US players as well), include English subtitles, and open a USA site where we can import them easily using a store like Right Stuf. Their website should try to make it as clear as possible about the importance of these old anime products, that they were created by "Osamu Tezuka, Creator of Anime."

Next, maybe we should remind them about offering anime for web streaming on Crunchyroll.com. We had been hinted about plans for Dororo, Princess Knight, Wonderbeat Scramble and Osamu Dezaki's Ashita no Joe in the past, but none of these panned out.

They should know just like we do that these old anime have no way to get any real US DVD releases, so these ideas should really be considered for the availability of these important works.

Any other suggestions?

I think the upcoming KickStarter project for anime mentioned on recent ANNCast would be the best chance to see more older titles released on DVD. I expect Tezuka Productions will be one of the partners, since he was previously working with them.

Oh my God! Why didn't I know about this? This was the most exciting news ever, and it's for classic anime too. You should've seen my face while listening to this. This is exactly how anime distribution should work.

He said the site will be launched in the Fall. It's a combination of a streaming site and a Kickstarter-alike, so they offer a few episodes for free, and with enough money offer more, and with a second goal reached, they make DVDs.

Never mind Tezuka Productions, this is the best news ever. I still hope Tezuka Productions will be a partner though or I'm gonna cry. I think they will, the reasons for making this sounded a lot like their abandoned project with Crunchyroll.

I wonder, maybe it's possible to raise awareness of Tezuka through Anime Conventions. Part of teh problem is that you have an entire generation that's almost entirely unfamiliar with Tezuka, introducing more new school fans who are unfamiliar with Tezuka may very well peak their interest the way it did mine.

The way to do it? Make the conventon Tezuka themed! Not in teh idea that everyone has to dress up as characters they may not be familiar with, but perhaps honour Tezuka and his works as the main attraction. Doing so may very well peak people's interests.

Yeha i know what you mean about 6 mhonts ago i was at a con with a lecture about the history of manga and i kinda spoiled the talker because i knew so much more about it than the person giving it

But yeha if tezuka only comes aroud in things like that at a con it aint gonna do it most folks don't even like history so no Naru-tard ore Bleach-tard DBZ-tard is gonna care and making tezuka the theme of a con may go a bit to far.

They just gotta find another way maybe some con will evantually find the right method tough i woudn't mind a sort of Tezuka con would love to go there

Yeah, I guess I did go a bit too far there. Perhaps a better method may be to mention Tezuka if you end up striking a conversation with someone at an Anime convention. If they sem intersted, then reccomend where they might start.

Showing off Tezuka's works at cons is hardly related to the distribution of his anime with English subtitles... There has been a few festivals about him where they showed some works officially subtitled that weren't available any other way, but even after that, they didn't even come out on DVD.

Kirben's news is AMAZING though, and there's also the new streams on viki.com that I made a new topic for. It's just too bad that so far they only have Tezuka anime that had been translated by other sources in the past, but I really hope there'll be more in the coming months!

But back to the podcast about the streaming/supporting website launching this fall, I noticed something when listening to it the second time.

First he says this:

I’m currently working at Tezuka Productions, however next month, I will be moving positions. I will be taking a job at a company called A-Dec.

Okay that we already know, but later on he also says:

Yup and i was refering to magical girl shows becoming very popular so i cuess we can make us up for at least dvd releases of Princess Knight and Marveluos melmo anytime soon though i have bouth in Italian already
