How about talking about the original voices of the 2003 series?
I really liked the role of Makoto Tsumura as Atom and funny that there was even a episode which Atom sounded like Makoto from Street Fighter 3 (Episode Time Hunter).
Uran's voice was quite cute and fitted her character, her acting was very strong and specially in "Micro Adventures" during the part which Uran express her true feelings.
Dr. Ochanomizu's VA all other versions of the character from 1960 and 1980s (I'm not counting the spin-offs).
Dr. Tenma's voice was pretty interesting, if not sinister.
Also, I liked Pluto voice and his voice actor even did Souther in Hokuto No Ken.

I thought they did a pretty good job choosing voices for the Japanese version of the 2003 series, especially considering a lot of anime suffer from bad or average voice replacement actors. They chose the right people I think.
One thing I will say about Makoto Tsumura that I like over Mari Shimizu is that Tsumura makes Atom sound a little more mature. By mature, I mean older. Overall though, I do prefer Shimizu as Atom.
Tenma's voice is awesome as well. Gotta love that deep voice that Shinya Owada gives him.

Yeah, I know what you mean.
I actually quite like Makoto Tsumura, her voice is very easy on the ears. But beyond that, I think it's just what you said Shinyonasan; she makes him sound very mature. In fact, she kind of sounds a lot like a kid around that age, which fits.
Also funfact; Tsumura was also the Japanese voice for Seilum (King Bradly's son) in the last few episode of the first Fullmetal Alchemist series. She was also the Japanese voice for Takato in Digimon Tamers, which Chiaki Konaka also penned.
As for Owada, well what can I say. Everything he says is just dripping with insanity; it gives you the impression that Tenma really is a sophisticated madman. With all that work, it's a shame that Owada hasn't had many seiyu roles prior, or since.
Also, I LOVE O'Shay's japanese voice. I don't know why, but I find it very cute. Maybe just because that voice coming out of a 68-year old man (if we're going by the manga) just sounds very weird, and yet somehow right for his character.

I don't think Atom's original voice being "mature", the voice completely fit him.
Specially when Atom act like a child.
Uran's voice is lovelly and specially when she is upset or frustrated.
Gotta love her line when she admits that she really wish to get along with Atom in "micro machine".

I actually liked Dr. Tenma's voice in the 2003 series. It really seemed to fit with his habit of mysteriously lurking in the shadows. In the other versions it doesn't have that quality (probably since he isn't in them as much).

The way which Uran talks in the japanese version of "Micro Machines" when she admit that she wish to get along well with Atom is so touching^^
It gave a lot of emotion in the scene.

hi- hugs love when ASTROBOY sounds cute but mature and intelligent- pray everyone the very best always- your friend always
ps- if they ever make another ASTROBOY series - the voice for the boy hero in the movie PARANORMAN- think his or was it a girl named KODI would be a good voice for ASTROBOY. FREDDIE HIGHMORE did a good job in the movie as ASTROBOY'S voice.
