Another Gizmag article, this one about 3' 11" toddler robot currently in development. A bit smaller than Atom, but similarly shaped.

This robot will use tendons, rather than directly connected electric motors, & is among several others that are supposed to become household companions for the elderly, & infirm. The child-like appearance of this & others is meant to make them less intimidating than the GORT - style.

They need to give him Astro Spikes!!

Seriously . . . when is one of these companies going to build one that actually resembles the Mighty Atom - I say it's just a matter of time!

I... I have a very strong love for robot children. I want to adopt one and dote on it and love it forever.

For the Roboy model it just needs skin and hair, but for now looks a little creepy.

Has anybody seen "Simon" http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/14/simon-the-robot-gets-upgraded-with-voice-and-face-recognition-s/ When I saw this one's face the first thing that came to my mind was to yank that stupid looking football helmet off his head and replace it with Astro's hair-doo. Too bad the robot equipment these guys are selling is priced in the 'Rolls-Royce' range.

The only thing is if any robot company had the nerve to actually come out with a robot with a face looking like Atom, would they land in court for copyright infringment? Probably not if it was up to Tezuka productions, but now that Sony has their hands in this who knows? (Don't get me going on Sony, I won't buy anything from those Bas..ards ever again!).
