What year did Atom fly into the sun?
What year did Atom fly into the sun?
What stated year did Atom fly into the sun?
"You guys have some serious Mommy issues."
I don't remember, but there's a figure of Atom like this called "Atom 2017." http://dbk.blog23.fc2.com/blog-date-201104.html

I found this site:

This figure was at the top of the page and appears to have that name, but when I translated it . . . it comes out as
Atom made of soft vinyl Denboku 2017 (Tales of Times Now Past Atom)
Denboku is the manufacturer - could this be a prototype of a future figurine?
He's rather dashing - don't you think?

Thank you for making us aware of this site, AprilSeven. The "Atom Returns" figure does look cool and would be a welcome addition to anybody's collection.

Yes, the thread is called "Astro Boy Returns" (First Grader & Fourth Grader Editions)
BTW, isn't the year 2017 the setting for "Jetter Mars"?
As for the year Astro Boy flies into the sun, the original episode in which that happens aired in Japan, Dec. 31, 1966 titled "The Greatest Adventure on Earth".
Since "Astro Boy" first aired in 1963 and in Japan the setting was then forty years in the future, 2003, then would not that make 2006 the year Astro Boy flies into the sun?

Jetter Mars takes place in 2015.

It's hard to tell how much time has passed in long running shows. So I’m not so sure about what year Astro Boy did flew into the sun. I guess that the year that the vinyl Denboku figure stated is true.

But in the manga, his first adventures (after Ambassador Atom) started 10 years after his birth.

Thank you for the correction. I was going off my memory and was off by two years.
As for your other theory, I do recall reading somewhere that originally it was also thought that "Astro Boy" also was thought of taking place in the year 2013, before the year 2003 was chosen as the year of Astro Boy's birth; so in lieu of more concise research 2017 is as good a year as any for "Atom Returns" to take place. Especially when with the second anime series Tezuka set the story in the year 2030+ and of course Fred Ladd set the story in the year 2000.
