This topic came up when I was explaining Astro Boy to a classmate and they immediately began to inquire about potential love lives for Atom, to which I kind of cringed and felt a little ill as they were referring to physical romance.
What are your thoughts on Atom having a physical love life? I personally think it's a little out of place for him, however an emotional romance bears no negativity from me.
Is this odd or a trend among fans?
What are your thoughts on Astro Boy pairings?

Don't worry every day I wish he was here before me, so I could hug him. I love this character, but for some reason it feels like I have met someone like him before but I don't know who. On topic here well yes I think most of us have that emotional affect on him, or BIG LOVE FOR HIM.

I LOVE ASTRO BOY!!
I LOVE ASTRO BOY!!
I think as a little thing on the side that isn't too dominating over the plot, the idea of Atom having a love interest isn't too bad. For example, there are sometimes the one off shorts that go a little into Atom's romantic feelings, each only one episode, and even in the comic too there is a short romance gag in volume 22 if I recall correctly.
Love interests can be a bit unappealing if it's not the point of a story yet emphasized too much, but since the Atom series doesn't drag those points out unnecessarily long, they stay appealing. I especially like how it was handled in the '80s series. Atom and Nuka's feelings for each other weren't shoved in the face of the viewer, they looked more like friends at first, which was nice since love isn't always extremely obvious, but it did build up to showing it more and the ending of the episode was just quite sweet how Atom wanted to remember her in the way he chose to.
In short, I think a platonic love is okay. Anything more and it will become unappealing, because it is the emotion and feelings that make this subject interesting to me.

I'm not sure how this is with the fandom (if there's actually a fandom left), but I really don't like it much. I'm pretty against pairings in general, but some I don't mind. Astroboy, however, just doesn't fit in with that sort of thing with me. I think one of the reasons is that Astroboy is not about love as in romance but love as in acceptance, loyalty, kindness, etc. Family type love, not romance. Yes, there are some instances of romance that pop up here and there, but nothing actually happens with them. They last one or two episodes and then disappear. In fact, the only romance I've seen that stayed for a sufficient amount of time was between Atlas and Lily(?) in the 80s show. I'm not saying that love is impossible in this world, because it obviously isn't. I just don't think it fits in the way you're describing it.
Which brings me to the topic of physical love vs. emotional love. I honestly do not think Astro would go any farther than kissing. He is very good-natured, and physical love does not seem to fit the bill. His personality would not let him. He would reject this idea, not only because he would get in trouble, but because he would find it very wrong and illogical (hopefully you can see where im going with this so i dont have to elaborate). He is smart and knows his boundaries. Sure, he would enjoy hugs and kisses like everyone else, but anything beyond that is a stern NO.
This is my idea on it. Feel free to agree/ disagree.
(I really hope I got what you were saying so I don't suddenly make this thread awkward...)
