If a new anime was made...
...who would you rather have as a recurring character and/or cameo for one or a few episodes, Jetter Mars or Cobalt?

Now that was a difficult question! Mars was never part of the Astro cannon while Cobalt was. Mars (AFAIK) never appeared in any manga (there might have been some unofficial manga/comics made as a result of the anime, as is often the case with TV shows). I've never really seen any of the Jetter Mars animes, there have been almost NO fan subs and no dubs in English. I'd REALLY like to see him appear in a new work, but I don't think he COULD really ever be a part of the Astro cannon (although Dan Rush HAS managed to work him into an Astro fan fiction, along with everyone else's brother and sister. For crying out loud, he even stuck Bender in it!)

I say both.
Then again, I'd find some way to integrate both shows into an overall canon which could be fairly easy especially if something new is done with it.
For a new anime, they need to focus on one thing and one thing only: to seamlessly adapt every manga story into the series. It might be a sad and depressing story, but still, it would be a pretty noble way of representing Tezuka's legacy.
It was a kid comic series but even then , it had concepts that would be for a family audience than a children oriented one.

If I had to pick, I'd say Cobalt. I'm probably terribly biased on the matter, because he's totally my favorite, but I strongly believe that he has a lot of potential in his own right if they were to ever bring him back as a recurring character.
But at the same time, from all the threads I've seen, I've grown to like Jetter Mars quite a bit, so I wouldn't mind seeing him in at least an episode or a mini-arc or something where Astro [and company?] goes to an alternate universe. I could see that being a fun watch, as well as a nice little nod to those who know about Jetter Mars.
Of course I'd probably find a way to reference even Chi-Tan and a lot of Tezuka's other manga if I could.

Both for me too . . . but if I have to pick one, then definitely Cobalt!
Mars would be more challenging to integrate because he shares so much with Astro that he's almost a "shadow" - which is why Dan's use of him in a comic manner works so well (he doesn't "explain" everything - but has Mars addressing Astro as "Knock-off!" :lol
He also put a great spin on Cobalt, making him more wonky than Astro, which works really well IMHO. From the manga episodes I've read that include Cobalt I don't get the idea that he's "stupid" . . . just not loaded with munitions and as assertive a personality as Astro.

Aaah, Shiyonasan, y u make me choose!?
Nope. If I can't vote for both, then I'm not voting at all.
Cobalt should be a recurring character; that much is a given. Mars could be a recurring character, too; like in the smae way that Reno, or any of Astro's friends, were. They didn't show up in every episode (heck, Atlas and the Blue Knight only showed up in a few for that series), but they were important in their own way, if not in a more direct way (like Atlas and the Blue Knight, and Shunsaku Ban in a few episodes). Although Mars would more likely fall into the latter category much of the time.
Cobalt would be more of a constant, like Uran was (and they would probably often appear together, both with Astro and without him). There could be Cobalt-centric episodes, like there was with Uran (although that occurred more in the 80's than the most recent version, where she was very important and was often the main focus, but ultimately wasn't the "star", so to speak).
