I wonder if the volume number corresponds with the same as the dark horse releases?

Hi! I think the item is a copy of the Astro Boy mangas published by Kodansha and were released with the stories in chronological order. I would have to dig out my copy to tell you which stories are in this particular volume, but I am sure all the stories in this volume are included in the English Astro Boy reprint series from Dark Horse.

Okay, I broke down and searched for my copy. So here it is, the stories in that particular volume. The editions also had synopses for each story in them. These were some of the first Astro Boy items I had for my collection. (My lovely lady bought the series for me, I believe this set had 18 volumes plus two special editions, as a Christmas present.)

Looking through the volume, I also see that the story, "SOS from a Satellite" is included, but without a synopsis or acknowledgement (in English) that it is included in this volume, (Except in the Japanese credits in the back of book.)

I may be wrong, but I think the Japanese language version of the manga was published in its original format and size. The Darkhorse editions were shrunk down from the original paper size used and are printed in mirror image so the books can be printed and bound with the spine on the left. I'd rather put my mind in mirror image mode and read them from right to left with the artwork as Tezuka drew it. (If I can read a Hebrew prayer book from right to left, how hard can it be?) Darkhorse take a lesson from Vertical!

Sorry, the Kodansha reprints were also shrunk down and not published in their original size. But I wish Dark Horse would have issued the "Astro Boy" series in the same size (and maybe format) as Digital Manga, Inc. did with their release of Tezuka's "A.tomcat"!
