There is a Japanese language version DVD (Region free) of the 2003 series sold from Malaysia available on ebay. It has English and Chinese subtitles. I wonder if this is the Japanese episode version that includes the 'missing' Ultraboy episode?

Ultraboy? You mean "Eternal Boy", right? And that was only "missing" from the English sequence (where it was replaced by a truly terrible clip-show episode).

Yes, Eternal boy. And since the one on ebay is a japanese language disk with subtitles, maybe it has that episode in it? But what did Hulu have up for the 2003 series in its place? I'm thinking of buying the one on ebay, especially if Eternal boy would be in it.

Oh I didn't watch it on Hulu. While I'm sure they are not supposed to be up there, Youtube has plenty of the episodes (some even in the Spanish dub). But I watched the full series on Netflix, when my brother still had it (good god I miss it).

Those DVD's on ebay are labeled DVD9. They are probably bootleg copies, but legal under Malaysian statutes. From what I've read, they may be of pour quality, and with all 50 episodes on TWO 8.4GB disks, they are probably low resolution, highly compressed, reprocessed copies of the original Japanese disks with subtitles added (in Chinese, English, and Malaysian). So I wonder if they are worth getting. Certainly a "Gray" market item. Several sellers have them from $24-$30 with free shipping.

Reminds me of what I heard about an old Korean (or somesuch) bootleg a while back.

Beware! This version is a BOOTLEG, the quality is awful and subtitles are horrible. I bought this version a few years ago hoping that it was a legit copy, but it wasn't. If you have no problem with piracy then go ahead and buy it, but you will be disappointed with the quality. It has the missing episode and is in fact uncut (the English version cut about three minutes off of each episode on average).

There was a help link on ebay about DVD9 items for sale, and they warned about the same thing. But just doing the math told me that the quality would not be good, 50 episodes at 25 minutes each on 17GB of disk space. That's WAY below DVD (450 line) resolution! It would take at least 5 double layer disks to do it justice, and this version is on only two.
