Astro and retirement

Astro: So....I'm thinking. When I'm 50 or so, what will I do for retirement? Doctor O'Shay wants me to go to Tokyo University and work for the Institute of Science after that but what then?

Reno: I dunno. Maybe you could spend the days doing something interesting? Like....become a gasoline dispensing pump?

Astro: Not! Hey....a department store security camera.

Reno: Knowing you, you'll pick the girl's dressing rooms.

Astro: Very funny. What do you all think? When I'm like 50 years old, what should I do for retirement?

I'll say...warning sounder for the blind at a Tokyo intersection. "Beep! RUN A CAR'S COMING! Beep! CAR'S COMING!"

Atlas: Retire at age 50? Hey that's even young for humans, and we robots can have a much longer lifespan you know.

Reno: Someone should hang the two of you on a carousel so the kids can ride on your backs! That would be an easy retirement.

Zoran: Well I'm going to be a veterinarian and take care of cute little puppies!

Mars: Hello Sweetie! Can I be your assistant?

Zoran: You know I'm still mad at you. Don't piss me off or I'll drop another SUV on your head!

Atlas: You two were made for each other, you know?

Astro: Yeah, what a nice couple.

(Zoran uproots a tree and uses it as a Louisville slugger on Atlas and Astro sending them flying!)

Reno: Well I'm leaving now! See you later Zoran.

Ahhh what an interesting thread . . . especially for a person who just turned 60 and is watching as one person after another in my life retires! Don't think that's in my cards. I'm a "bop 'til I dropper" :p

---------

Reno: "All kidding aside, do you ever think about that?"

:astro: : "Haven't you noticed, robots don't 'retire,' Reno. They get decommissioned and deactivated."

Reno: . . .

:astro: : that is a LONG way off, you know . . .

Reno: You'll be in the Robot Hall of Fame . . .

:astro: : Now THERE's something I'm looking forward to: my deactivated body, propped up for people who paid admission to gaze at!

Reno: It's not the same as a human or animal body. It's more like a shell.

:astro: It's more like a MUMMY! I'll be there - innards and all. There just won't be power to make me, ehhhh . . . 'alive.'

[Reno and Astro look at each other thoughtfully]

:astro: I mean, I can live indefinitely. Maybe if I live long enough, they'll be able to bridge me over to a human-type soul.

Reno: I actually think that will happen, Astro.

:astro: Sure hope so. In the meantime, I plan to just keep doing what I'm doing, as long as I can. I don't think I could spend seven days a week on a golf course.

Well once my two daughters finish grad school, maybe I'll be able to. There are a few places in the world I'd like to visit before I get too discomboobulated to do so.

ASTRO: I really don't know what I'm going to do for retirement.

RENO: Maybe you should ask other people what their plans are. That might give you some ideas. Do you know anyone close to retirement?

ASTRO: I don't know... Let me think about it.

SOON, AT THE MINISTRY OF SCIENCE

ASTRO: Hey, Dr. O'Shay! You're old, right?

O'SHAY: Think very carefully about your next sentence, Astro.

ASTRO: I just mean, what are you going to do when you retire?

O'SHAY: I plan to keep doing what I'm doing. Eventually, when I have enough money in my retirement account, I'll step down as the head of the Ministry of Science, but I'll continue to work on my projects in my spare time. Why do you ask?

ASTRO: I was just wondering what I should do when I retire.

O'SHAY: Aren't you a little young to be worrying about all this?

ASTRO: Doctor, I was first activated in 2003. Do you know how long that is in robot years?

O'SHAY: I can't say that I do...

ASTRO: I need to start planning for my future.

O'SHAY: Well, why don't you go ask some of your other friends? I'm sure they have some ideas for you. Only be careful about how you broach the subject, will you?
