Hot dog corps Manga, aircraft

In the Manga Story, "The Hot Dog Corps", Tezuka drew a rather strange looking aircraft. He called it a jet, but it was actually a turbo-prop with counter-rotating propellers. The Aircraft was actually copied from a real one, a very unusual design, the Convair XFY-Pogo.

Tezuka must have been interested in aviation, and kept up with developments in the field. In the '63 anime opening sequence from the last seasons he showed Atom flying past an SST aircraft with canard wings. This design first appeared on the B70 Valkyrie experimental bomber.
