In addition to the famous cowlicks , I realized that with the "v" notch in his "mane" Tezuka gave Astro a bit of the 50's greaser look with a "D.A." or duck tail like Elvis and many of the DooWap era rockers had.

hmmm . . . I always saw that as his hairline - sometimes called a "widow's peak."

I always thought the back of his noggin was rather cute - the little notch in the back of his neck.

Yeah, it's that notch that divides the hair in the back that resembles the way a "duck's 'arse'" is combed (like the fonz did). His widows peak was greatly exadurated, but could also be suggestive of hair combed down between the eyes, another style from the 50's.

I don't know if this us true but I heard that astro's hair resembled Tezuka's because in the morning when he would wake up it would be in Astro's hair style. I

Yup, it's true - and (as a person with very curly hair) I can attest to the fact that my bed-head goes into Astro "spikes" (more like blobs) when it's short!

Yes, I had heard that, too. Although, I don't think that Tezuka's cowlicks were quite as... pointy as Atom's are, eheh. It is based upon this appearance, but I'm fairly certain that it is also exaggerated a bit. As is that widow's peak- I'm sure that real ones don't extend down quite so far. And the notch in the back, above the neck, is a little weird. I've never seen it worn by any character or person before Atom.

As I said, I think that 'notch' is suggestive of the "Duck Tail" hail cut from the 50's
