Well that wasn't the only time Astro was depicted with his cowlicks back.

Though in the second case it's mostly a camera angle thing.

I think the animators were just flubbing a bit, but it's fun to see. The canon universe states that Atom's hair is rigid, so it wouldn't make sense for it to be pushed back with his velocity.

However my head canon IS that his hair is more like hair so. Meh.

I have seen in many other shows that sometimes the animators just want to have fun with some of the characters. I suppose, if the animator has been animating the same group of characters for the past few weeks or months they grow somewhat attached to them when they draw them. And so, I would not be surprised if they would like to have some fun, they would probably also have fun amongst their co-workers.

I bet the animators were also overworked so details like this sometimes probably just slipped them, and if they caught it they just didn't care.

They sweep back like F-14 Tomcat wings when Astro sets dog-fight mode?

Always wondered about his aerodynamics. I figured he used his arms as wings, and used thrust vectoring for pitch and yaw. But maybe those spikes are a canard wing?

astroboy's spikes are pushed back? That's weird... Wasn't this the one episode where cobalt changed his hair style? I've never watched it just heard about it.

Huh, I forgot that both happened in the same episode. It seems like everybody was getting new hairstyles in this one!

He looks quite cute with the spikes like that, but I agree it seems kinda weird with the implied solid shape.
