Japanese Language Dialog

In listening to episodes of the Japanese language version of the '63 series I've never heard Professor Ochanomizu mentioned by name. Atom always seems to address him as 'Professor'. "pakaser" (As far as I can make out!) is what he refers to him as, which is either the word for professor, or they are using a borrowed English word.

In fact, words such as Robot, Baby, and Contest (from episode 165, "A great fuss over babies") seem be be used (with an accent).

I've also noticed that Uran almost always calls Atom as "brother Atom" (though in Japanese the words are reversed when spoken) .. I can recognize the word for 'younger brother'. In "Lonely Atom" the boy who was not effected by the hypnosis also used the word for 'brother' when referring to Atom.

Now if I only knew a few more words, I could almost start pulling others out of context.

I usually hear Atomu address Ochanomizu as "Hakase" = Professer (Ph.d). Something like that.

I'll have to listen to it again. That may actually be what I heard.

Yeah, you're right. Atom usually calls him "Hakase" or "Ochanomizu Hakase". That's true for the 1980s and 2003 series as well.

I have been having rather mixed results in the JLV; I always listen for the honorific suffixes, but often, I do not perceive them. The live-action is even worse, I just could not tell even the names of known characters!
