I recently stumbled upon a work of Tezuka's (apparently??) that also features a young robot protagonist.

I had not heard of this character before today honestly! If anyone else has any info please share! I thought this might be interesting!

I think I viewed that book, or at least the 1st 18 to 20 pages, which were free, online sometime ago. I will look in my collection of notes.

That IS Tezuka's signature in Japanese. This character was not listed in Hellen McCarthy's "The art of Osmau Tezuka". That pig character sorta reminds me of Ochanomizu! We need someone to translate that Manga you found.

Drop? I think one way to spell it could be Rop or Ropp but definitely not Drop.

I think it might be a water pun since they were found underwater apparently! In which case that's pretty clever!

Nah, it's definitely Roppu-kun, or Rop. I can read Japanese and it definitely starts with a "ro" on those tankoubon covers.
