Well, this is an interesting discovery.

In an interview with Bill Harris from 1983, Mark Hamill explains that he auditioned for a dub role in Astro Boy over in Japan during high school since his dad was in the military. Hamill says that he doesn't remember the role he was auditioning for since he was kept pretty busy. As is assumed, he did not get the role he auditioned for.

They start talking about it at the 32 second mark in this video (I suggest using Adblock for this site if you have it):

Bill Harris thinks Astro Boy is like some kind of Godzillia movie? WTF?

Does this mean Mark Hamil likes Astro Boy? OOH petition to have him in the reboot! Or the live action movie the Lego movie people want to make!

I don't think it means he likes Astro Boy, he might but it doesn't mean he does. Actors audition for lots of things they know nothing about and even turn out just not liking particularly but it is their job.

I do think though that he would do fabulously, he is an amazing actor with extraordinary depth and talent and has years as a voice actor (he is The Joker after all).

Interesting! I wonder what role he would have gotten if they had picked him. I'm trying to imagine Astro Boy characters with some of the voices he uses.

Maybe this time he won't try to burn down a continent.
