It just occurred to me that one thing that Astro did in almost every episode was to open his chest access panel to check on his power level, refuel, or just hide something inside there. Whenever he needed repairs, Ochanomizu would open that panel to get inside to get at his bad part.

Well, Uran is also a robot, she was NEVER shown with such an access panel was she? (I think Cobalt might have been).

I always just assumed the access panel was on the back of her head, and Ochanomizu just opened her head halfway to get in. I don't remember if this was in the manga or one of the 1980 episodes. (Take this with a grain of salt; many years ago I binge-watched/read a lot of Astro Boy while home sick with a fever, so I could be mis-remembering something.)

UPDATE: I absolutely mis-remembered this.

In the 1980s (I, unfortunately, can't remember what she had in the other versions. I'm going to look it up though since I'm curious now), we were shown, in her debut, that she had a chest panel like Astro

I didn't remember that. That may have been the only episode showing that.



What's interesting is that her panel is shown as being part of her dress, yet in the greatest robot in the world episode, Uran is shown wearing only Astro's shorts with a bare chest. Another of Tezuka's inconsistencies.

I recall seeing midair refueling with Uran or Cobalt serving as the sources of the fuel. I will search my HDD for 'panel' which ought to produce the results sought.

Both Hinotama (Fireball) & Viki or is it 'VIKI'? have their panels in back & hinged at the top.
