SR-71 Blackbird animiation by Mr. AprilSeven

Postby AprilSeven » 15 years ago

Okay, it's wifey bragging time!! My husband's first "big" (45 seconds) animation has just debuted at Aviation History Magazine's website. On his aging Mac it took FIVE HOURS to render this thing. He used Lightwave.

Today, the Blackbird -- tomorrow Astro? check it out:

:astro: -- me next! me next!

:tenma: -- where are you manners, son?

:hyo: -- Watch out Astro, the circus is comin' to town

I liked it, but the text pages flipped too soon. I am not a slow reader, but by the time I was focused, I had only enough time to read most of it. :p

You're not a joke, you fit right in!

Thanks for your feedback -- it's certainly not "perfect" in many ways (things like the amount of time to allow for reading the info on the plane were tricky to determine -- thanks for letting us know it was still a little too fast, Jeffbert). He was also greatly hampered in how much he could do and how long the piece could be by the less than optimum software and grossly underpowered computer. Like trying to compete in the Indy 500 in a VW Beetle :whistling: -- but he's trying to break in, and this was a chance to do it.

This magazine just redesigned their website, and, together with Steve's input, decided to experiment with adding some kind of animation to promote an article in the current issue.

Unfortunately some of the comments on their site were really nasty: "that was stupid" "a waste of time" " can't recommend this to family/friends" -- it's amazing how cruel people can be to others who are making sincere efforts in their work (both the magazine and artist).

A shame these people couldn't have said something constructive, like -- "would have liked more technical detail and animation" or "was expecting the whole article -- this wasn't enough to make it worth watching" :(

Being a freelance artist can be very trying work that requires skin as tough as Astro's!

:astro: - Ever see one of my drawings? *shows molecular structure of sunflower*

:hyo: - A real Picasso, you are! Better keep your day-job, Astro!
