Want to get a new movie maker program, help!

I have been using Cinelerra occasionally for some time, but not enough to compare with other softwares. It has a lot of effects though. I used it on GNU/Linux, but I think it exists for Windows too. I have no time to check now though...

I can watch movies from DVDs and using Windows Media player but not make AMVs

what presisley does movie maker tell you???????
this makes no scence to me the video card has no barring on video editing, all the work is doen in software, unless the problem has somthing to do with directx, probabley used by moviemaker to display the video, in that case just run windows update and install any updates releated to directx and that should fix your problem. if that is not it then tell me what the exact error messsage is.

Windows Movie Maker cannot start becuase your video card does not support the required level of hardware acceleration or hardware acceleration is not available

thats what pops up first when i click on the icon of the program

That's not a problem with video acquisition, that's a display driver problem. Do you know which video card you have? In any way, maybe you should update your DirectX drivers (which version do you have? last one is 9.0c if I remember correctly).

if you look where all the threads are, near the top of the screen you'll see an icon that says new post. Click it and you can create one =3 Since it's a turtorial, you'd post it in General Discussions.
