need a free large file sharing site

Postby diehard67 » 13 years ago

I have a huge file I want to distribute, 4GB

it is a iso image of a rescue disk I made, a bunch of linux distros for different things and some utilities for harddrives.

anybody know where I can host such a large file for free and let people download it?????????????????

don't worry nothing on the disk is illegal or anything like that.

How about dropbox.com I'm 99.99999% sure they offer a free or free trial. I've used them (my office has an account) and they're reliable.

can I use em for public sharing???????

I just loked into dropbox, I would need to pay for enough space to hole my 4GB file, I am thinking I may have to just post instructions for how to creat the iso image rather then the image itself, all the stuff is free to download and use, my disk just puts it all in one place.

dropbox allows 2GB free, if I refered 4 or 5 people then I could get enough but I don't know anybody that could use the service.

I would suggest using bittorrent: several persons could add up their bandwidth for quicker download.

Wouldn't your rescue disk allow for proprietary RAID-0 recovery? I know someone who would be delighted to have a try :D

if it is hardware raid that shows up to the os as 1 big drive it might, not to sure about that.

here is what is on the disk.
I just put all me favourite tools for fixing and setting up computers on a dvd disk.

Trinity Rescue Kit - Basic butt saver linux distribution
Gparted live - Linux distro for partition and filesystem editing
Clonezilla live - Disk and partition duplication and imaging
Seatools disk - Seagate and maxtor hard disk utility disk
MHDD disk - Generic hard disk repair utility disk
Ftool disk - Hitachi hard disk configuration utility disk
Dlg disk - Western Digital data lifeguard disk
Dft disk - Hitachi data fitness test
Rescatux live - Linux distro for fixing boot loaders (grub grub2 windows)
DBAN - Secure hard disk wipe
Memtest86+ - Tests your ram
HDT - Syslinux hardware detection tool
Ubuntu/kubuntu - Linux desktops (i386 and x64)

also, I have a usage cap on my home internet and a regular public download is easier for people to use, so I uploaded it to google drive.

The hardware is fried, so there are only 2 disks that together hold the data. Basically it needs reconstruction using a software RAID emulating the hardware one. According to the few I know on RAID, it might be possible, or not if the hardware manufacturer wanted to be a jerk.

the best chance of getting the data back is to connect the drives to and identical raid card or maybe a newer one from the same line may work, other then that his only hope is backups.
