Ah...gotcha.

I'm usually pretty observant of jokes with word play, but that one flew over my head. I've got to remember that one.

Of course! I have a very lovely friend by the name of Sinead who lives in Ireland. We've been talking for about ten years now.

I would think (and hope) many of the people here that I've been exchanging dialog with. I hope I can meet many of you in person some day.

Change something about Atom? Not sure if I would change him but rather the world he is in. I'd make it so not every single robot friend he makes dies but rather lives so Atom can have more friends.

As for liking him the moment I saw him... I think diehard67 nailed it there :D

If you were a runt elementary or middle school kid who always felt just a bit insecure (the object of the upper classmen bullies) you might (as I did) imagine you had Astro as a friend. Having the makings of a future geek/nerd at the time, and always dissecting every science fiction story to see just how they could be possible, I even imagined how one could actually build a robot, this being before microprocessor chips had made the computer part of the equation solvable. (Only later did I discover how large a simple computer made from discrete transistors would be.)
Image
BTW this entire machine (less the 4k memory) is now available in a single 40pin dip chip. The memory fits in a second one!
(Actually the computer IC is no longer made, but you can still find them on Ebay. It's the Intersil IM6100.)

I wonder how many people from the 'baby-boomer' era were inspired to go into engineering or anything technological as a direct result of Astro Boy.

Oh wow that computer, still nothing like the early computers from Alan Turing's theories and work.

Reviving thread! :D

Would you rather hear a terrific and amazing true story, or a terrific and amazing fictitious story?
