The Martian

Postby Tetsuwan Penguin » 9 years ago

I saw the film this afternoon. IT is a MUST see if you're a space science nut. Almost ALL of the science stuff in here is correct (two exceptions) and is actually possible.

click for spoilerThe two exceptions are: 1: a sandstorm on Mars isn't dangerous, it's more like a mild breeze because even though the wind DOES move at high speeds, the atmosphere is so thin that it can't move much. 2: In the scene where he creates water by burning hydrozine the actual thermal energy released would have burned down the habitat. The author blew the chemical equations for this one.

I really enjoyed this one, could it be that a sci-fi flick finally wins best picture?

I will wait for NF to release it on DVD. I admit, I favor either way-out or realistic SCIFI.

Matt Damon sure seems to like the play these kind of roles where his character is in peril and he needs rescuing. That or it is complete coincidence.
