Ok, everybody... after having gotten rid of my three day Frau Brönimann-Identity I am a bit reluctant with posting...
I hope my friend Louis will soon appear in here and let me know who is who... Otherwise you will have to say hi first and introduce yourself to me.

Don't know what Newbies are expected to share in here, so ask if I am expected to tell more about myself...

On to further pleasures and posts!
True Peace! ;)

Hi Aido !
Hmmm... I think I needn't to introduce myself, I'm sure you know already a bit of me ;)

So, as I said before, welcome aboard :)

PS: sorry for not posting more, but your alter-ego has exhausted me these last days :D

Perfect, thank you buddy!
It seems as if we haven't met in person for a few months...
The avatar is me, but the picture was taken in 1999 in SanDiego when they bleached my hair. Look at my nose and you will know it's me (five years younger than today, of course...) Maybe you should come over for a weekend again or so... Or I send you a picture of mine that you can hang on your fridge in order to study my face on a daily basis.... (do you open your fridge daily?)

But since I see that everybody is using Astroboy_Avatars I might change mine as well to better fit in here... There are oviously so many do's and dont's I have to get familiar with... Blessed where the days when I still was Mrs. Brönimann - she never cared about anything...

Tüss,
Aido

P.S. Whom is your Avatar representing? Looks a bit like Ursula when being mad at you... ;)

Lol
Ursula would be the better comparison to my sig :P .
Actually yeah, I do open my fridge daily, but it's always the same sight: empty/nothing/none/nobody/air.

OMG, now I see it - it's definately you. Never thought you could look so alike to your older brother :)

Changed your avatar huh? Now you're looking like your younger brother  .

“Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace has brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.”

Amazing Grace, yes? Why are you quoting 'biblical reference verse'?

Welcome aboard.
And thanks for the Frau stuff. It was wonderfully entertaining!

Bonjour Danny! Nice to see you posting here!

You are right on the spot... the thread's title is a line in amazing grace...
It just came to my mind when I was thinking about a suitable title, since my start on those boards has been a bit strange... ;)
I'm not quite sure what you mean by "biblical reference verse", since those words cannot be found in the entire bible - still they transport the center of the Christian gospel - which, since you ask me about it: is very central to me, too. (Who would have guessed so when reading my Brönimann-posts... :o ).

But as I said - the line just popped up in my brain because I felt if I was able to stay here and post here it is by the grace of the forum moderator who has not kicked me out when I was remembering Louis of his beloved Mrs. Brönimann....hehe

What I wanted to ask you: How come you know that song? Did you learn it at school?
And - speaking of songs - what do you honestly think about the Astroboy lyrics in the finishing tune?

Bye for now:

There is not too many sonse or verse IN the bible, so I am not surprized to hear that line is not in there somewhere. It was not, after all, written by Shakesphere (more to its detriment than merit). This is why I used the 'half quotes' arond the comment. It is a biblical reference, it is not, however, a biblical quote.

I have no idea why I know the song. I just do. It is an incredibly common song. Possibly even known by more aussies than Khe Sahn! (but, .. nahh.. I dont think so..)

as for the finishing tune of Astroboy, I havent really put much thought into it. The closest I can get to an honest response then would be that it doesnt suck. Hmm..

That song uses really poor grammar. "That saved a wretch like me" is incomplete. For one must ask, like me what?

Its full expression is "That saved a wretch like me am." However, the am is only implied, and can be ommitted, but the grammar is still wrong. The me is the problem. It shoud be "... that saved one so wretched as I, I once was... but now I'm not gonna die" or some such thing. For you Aussies, it would be "that saved this wretched ol' bloke, now I'm saved, but before I was gonna croak.

However, song writers seem to often ignore proper grammar, except when it actually ryhmes and is consistent with their ability.

Rocket high, through the sky
What adventures soon you will make.

This line of our little hero's opening tune is yet another example, I'm afraid.
As for me, I think the whole songtext of the opening and finishing tune should be rewritten. Astroboy deserves something more heroic...

This would be a neat idea for a little contest... one day, maybe.

I agree with you Jeff. Certain songtexts definitely suck grammatically. I am not THAT familiar with English but what I know from High German (not Swiss German) is that one is allowed to skip adjectives and even verbes when the context is clear. In German those constructions are called "elliptic". An example one might find in our everyday life: "No smoking" (one would expect the adverb "allowed") - or in German: "Smoking prohibited" (without the verb "is")...
