I remember this film in which there was a devestating eathquake, that threatened to split the earth. There was a lengthening crack that scientists thought they could stop by dropping an a-bomb into a volcano. So these guys wearing special suits with flashing lights on the shoulders went into the volcano by lowering themselves on ropes, guiding the bomb past the irregularities in the shaft. However, this one poor guy's rope was dragging accross a sharp edge and snapped. I vividly remember the sight of him dissapearing into the darkness of the shaft, light flashing, while some woman screamed an fainted.

I also recall a part with a train chugging along, as the crack opened just ahead of it, and the train plunged into it.

I thought the film was called "Crack in the World," but could not find any references to this title. Help me, Cybotron!

I can't say if I ever saw that film, however the storyline appears to be done very much in Ed Wood style. Was this movie filmed in b/w or in color?

I think it was color, but it has been over 30 years, so I could be wrong.

I've found those links containing detailed synopses of this film's plot:

http://movies2.nytimes.com/gst/movies/movi...html?v_id=88047

Apparently it even got released on DVD:

Also a lot of them can be found on ebay.

Are these the informations you're looking for? :) I hope I could help a bit.

Hmm, I must have searched for "Crack in the Earth" rather than World. Antway, thanks. I just bought a copy from eBay, hope to have it early next week.

Dude, you ever seen a movie called The Night the world Exploded? I thought that was what you were referring to when I started to read this thread. I was wrong, but the two movies sound very simillar. Of the "midnight" movies I used to love in high school (and, I must confess.. to this day heh) this was one of the titles I used to enjoy the most.

Very few things entertain as much as "classic" B's.
three and a half years.. for what?

Lucky me, they are both on the DVD I just ordered. But, to get to the point, I first knew of this film when I saw it paired with the other on eBay.

Well, it turns out that this was a home-burned disc, wheteher or not the copyrights were renewed, I know not. I assume it is bootleg, as it seems people think that just because there are no factory made copies that the films are therefore public domain.

Anyway, the world did not explode!! Oh, how badly I wanted to see that in a B-movie, but noooo! The title deceived me. The first film, crack in the world (or was it Earth) was a bit slow in the beginning, so I skipped ahead to the scene in which the guy's cable is cut and he falls into the lava. It just lacks something when there is no "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! [splash fizz]. :D Yet, from that point and on, the film was rather gripping.
