Kanashimi no Belladonna

Postby mr skunk » 18 years ago

I'm in the process of watching "Kanashimi no Belladonna" (Sad Belladonna), a movie produced in 1973 at mushi co., the company that many of Tezuka's works were filmed at. I'm not sure exactly how he's associated with this movie, but I know he fits in there somewhere.

So far, I like it a lot. It's..... erotic, is the only word, and full of horror and fantasy. It's very experimental, and for good reason, as it seems many films in the 70s were pushing the envelope so to say. I'll post a more detailed review when I finish watching it. Leaving out the nasty bits, of course. ;)

Wow, the IMDB review really trashed it. I look forward to your review.

I had some DVDs arrive yesterday, amongst them is Tezuka's Space Firebird 2772. On the more disturbing side, I also bought Urotsukidoji. At some point I shall steel myself to watch it.

I've actually never heard of Urotsukidoji, what is it about? Is it a Tezuka film?

No, it's an 80s anime film that pushed the envelope. I'm not sure it qualifies as experimental, but it's sort of a historical milestone in anime due to the disturbing level of horror and sex and violence (so I've read).

It is one of those things you dare not discuss on a family-friendly site. I have seen the whole thing, & it is very weird & perverted. :p irate: Please do not ask me to describe it. :D
