It freaks you out because you believe your cognitive bias. You see 1970 as the year of the post, therefore you "believe" the post was made at this moment. However, the server only sends you the date that it has in its database. If this value is changed, then the "date when the post was made" will be the new value, whatever it is. The only reason why it is reasonnable to believe it is actually the date of the post is because the server will fill the field with the current date at the moment the post is made, and never change it thereafter. However, in case of bugs or data corruption, this value may change nevertheless.
