Who likes these books?

Postby MightyAstro » 16 years ago

I'm quite an admirer of C. S. Lewis, J. R. R. Tolkien and J. K. Rowling. I think that they are the authors of the three greatest series of Fantasy books in the world. The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. :w00t:

Harry Potter is my favourite, with Narnia second in preference. Lord of the Rings is enjoyable although a little slow and drawn-out. What do you think of these books?

I have read Lord of the Ring 4 times. Although I found it slow too the first times (first time I read it I skipped almost half of the first book), I must say I liked it as it is important for the atmosphere of the books. I wouldn't take any risk in telling wich book in general is the best, but I'm rather confident that the Lord of the Ring is among the best. I thought that long before it was even planned to make a movie on it, and of course I still think it.

Among the best books in my opinion are also the 6 books of Dune by Frank Herbert. Prequels and sequels by Brian Herbert (his son), although good, aren't as good as the original.

I plan to read Harry Potter someday, but I still have to finish reading Dune for the 5th time, reading all books by Herbert and Brian Herbert from first to last in story chronological order, as well as the ~15 Starwars books that I haven't read yet :D
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I'm still into Tolken and Don Pendleton's Mack Bolan.

Chuck Norris has nothing on the Mack.

I read the Tolkien quadrilogy in HS, but would not want read it again, as I have found many free books on the Project Gutenberg site. Currenly, I am about to start the 5th or 6th novel in E. R. BURROUGHS' Barsoom series; I find it as weird as what I would expect from an author who uses LSD.

I hadn't actually read all of Harry Potter but I've recently finished it now.

It was very clever although the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort was rather small and brief. A little bit anti-climactic in my opinion. I still loved it though never-the-less. :D
