Unfortunetly, that page is still under contruction and has yet to have any info added. Toni, here is some info:

You can always count on Tezuka @ World. Btw, I agree with the whole comic relief thing, there are a few characters who usually play villians that are more inept than others (HamEgg and Lamp come to mind). Skunk is interesting because he does both kinds of villians so well. I remember in the later Astro Boy mangas in the 80s that he was a pretty pathetic villian (Astro vs. Atlas, the baby elephant Pura), though when he first made his debut he was pretty sinister.

I got excited when I saw this thread was updated, I thought you might have more pictures for us! Oh well, I'll be patient.

To my knowledge, the 1960s version of Death Balloons shows Skunk at his very worst. I made a thead on this forum about it, but lost my image host since then. I will look for it, & see about restoring the images. :astro:

Richard Widmark?

Though "Kiss of Death" was his debut role, I always thought it was his best. He was nominated for best supporting actor for that role I think. I was just reminded of it while watching the academy awards a few hours ago.

I thought Skunk's best performance was in the 2003 anime.
Just a thought.

Does Skunk add any thing to Astroboy despite being a bad guy for Astroboy to defeat? Thanks

I think somebody asked if Skunk was like the Joker. He is in one way: he never stays in jail very long.

Skunk as a character adds variety to Astroboy stories. Tezuka has a large assortment of character actors & actresses, and they play various roles in various stories. To my knowledge, Skunk's contract with Tezuka Co. typecasts him as a villain, and although he begged for a heroic role, he was always the low-life villain. <--I made that up, I hope you laughed at it.

Tezuka co. representative: "... but Mr. Kusai, it states right here in your contract that..."

Skunk: "PLEASE, PLEASE! I wanna save a damsel in distress!!!"

Me: "What was that...?" (purposely hangs off building in hopes Skunk will come rescue me)

But seriously, in regards to Toni's question:

I always thought it would be interesting if in one episode Skunk and Astro had to set aside their differences and work together. Of course, in reality, I think he's a little bit too evil for that to work. I can picture it working more with Atlas, maybe because he at least has a LITTLE bit of good in him.

They did something along those lines in the 2003 version. I forget the name of the episode, but Skunk has a machine built for a man named Kane that takes the a.i. out of robots. Towards the end, Astro saves Skunk after his "soul" or whatever was taken by the robot. It's the closest I think we'll ever get to them "working together," even though Skunk didn't really do anything.

Except promise he'd buy Astro a soda... :whistling:
