should be able to, I will go check.

edit:

wwooooowww, back from windows

the w7 verson of mm can't select the video file format to export but you can set the video and audio bitrates and autio sampleing rate up as high as they will go and you shouldn't loose any quality.

Ok it's easy....
You highlight the area you want to keep and cut or copy it and paste to a new video track. Also you can pre render the area you highlight or select. You can select a place to pre render to...
If you right clik on an empty track a menu comes up and select "insert a video track" then simply paste your cut or copied clip on the new track. There you can add efx or whatever. It's real easy....

other then that I can't help[ with vegas never used it.

I could if you wanted try to compile some of the open sorce linus videoediting software on windows in cygwin???, maby 1 of those will work for you.

1 thing I do know from editing my own home videos is that there is no 1 perfect program.
cinalara is my faverate for editing but it can't capture from my camcorder (firewire capture doesn't work on newer kernels with cinalara)
kino can capture but has vertualy no editing capibilities.

so I capture with kino then edit with cinalara, althow my new laptop diesn't have firewire so I will be capturing with a usv video capture dongle and vlc. or the desktop computer then push the files over to the laptop

I use mostly stock footage, but when I capture I do it from my HD camcorder. Each little clip I get out of the camera comes into Vegas as little clips depending on the number of times I start and stop recording with the camera. I import into vegas as M2T files in HD. And I work in Vegas as HD clips in mpg 2 or M2T HD. I do not know of a camcorder that does not break the shoots into small parts when you stop. Each clip or group of clips is then captured from the camcorder as a separate file.
Here are tons of videos showing how vegas works....
Also if you have a legitimate real copy of Vegas, you should upgrade. What version are you using? 8 is way out of date...

No....
The camera does. Each time I hit stop recording it makes a clip Then when I record it makes a new clip! Then I capture from the camcorder into Vegas.
When I import from my Flip or other camera, it shows all my clips as individual clips that I then can choose which to import.

*Pokes fingers together* I, I sort of brought Vegas 8 because it was cheaper. :hyo:

Upgrade, you mean online? But I do that won't it cost? Cause I'd rather not spend more on a program I'm struggling to like as it is.

I was talking about capturing throw a device that takes ntsc video in directly, like a tv tunners vcr input, come software will guess when you hit record but to my knolage there is no way for the camara to tell the "tv" that it thinks it is sendign video to when the button was pressed.

dv (firewire) on the other hand does know when I stop and start recording and devides the clips.
