Ugh.....I knew it. Speed Racer should be featured on History Channel's Mega-disasters as how not to make films that.....suck.

Heck I don't know where to start, Emile Hersh was a good pick but the whole movie was done in by Warchowski stupidity in steroid mode. It looked like a cheesy X-Box game you'd find in a 3.99 Walmart box!

Even the reviews were skewed, which shows how stupid and vile our media in America has become...

"That being said, from what I've heard, they are not trying to dress up the pig. They're resigned to it being a disaster... just not enough to stop them from fabricating a number to jump Fox for the #2 position."

I couldn't sit through it, had to go because of curiousity and left holding my head to prevent brain damage.

They totally blew off my Generation in this thing and ruined any hope that any modern American director could translate Anime to screen with desirable affects....now you have Decaprio making AKIRA?!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!!!STOP THE STUPIDITY PLEASE!

Why did people hate this movie? I'm so sad they are probably not going to do a sequel and they left a cliff hanger :(

Please do not spoil it for those of us who wait for the DVD. I realize that dannavy85 has political gripes with this film, which seems to be rather one-sided in its views; but that is the nature of literature. For centuries, writers have used literary allegories to make illegal statements, that if they had said them directly, would have cost them dearly. Today it seems they use these allegories to disguise their views for other reasons, such as subtlety influencing people. This is likely the case here. However, this forum banned political speech, so please refrain from expressing political opinions here. :hyo:

Well there hasnt been any real good movies in a looong time and it was over hyped so Iron Man did very good, the problem with speed racer is they released it to compete with Iron Man rather than waiting a couple weeks to release it when summer was in full swing which would of been good cause than all the little kids would of seen it. I wonder if it still has a chance with kids? I just really want another movie SIGH

Ok, I saw it today at a 2nd run theatre. I disliked the actual race scenes because it was very difficult to actually see the cars. Oh, there was no shortage of action, but with the frequent cuts, the unsteady views, and the saturated color, I simply could not enjoy the cars themselves. The Mammoth Car, if you could really call it that, was just too small. Moreover, it was not introduced properly, nor were any other cars. The GRX was just wasted in this film. I rate that part as a 2/5 at best.

Everything to do with Spritle was just plain too silly to be even amusing, much less funny. It was as though they really thought these scenes were funny & expected me to laugh. 1/5 for this part.

The story itself was not too bad, but it was notably different from the anime, at least the English Dubbed version. The relationships between the characters were ok, except that they included too many secondary ones. Cruncher Block was just a side item, as was Snake. And Snake w/o the Car Acrobatic Team, was just too sad. Where was Capt. Terror? There was the GRX or 'ERX' as the manga has it, again, it was only a side item, as was its driver. Hence, these characters and their vehicles just did not receive enough air time to do them justice. 3/5 for these parts.

In short, they tried to pack too much into this film, & that made those ingredients insignificant compared to their former selves. I rate the whole as 2/5 compared to nearly any well known episode of the series.

However, having said that, I was glad to see the film anyway. Maybe they will make a sequel that does not try to cram an entire series into just one film. :p
