While Walt drew Mickey, it was Ub Iwerks that gave him the idea for a mouse character after he lost his other cartoon, Oswald the Rabbit.

aslo Walt did create the mouse, based on inspiration from a little mouse he named Mortimer that lived in the garbage cans in the small studio where he made his Alice shorts

Actually, he wasn't going to be named Mickey Mouse, he had another name but before he was made. Walt's wife had convinced him to change it, and thus, Mickey Mouse was born
