:d oh:

It just hit me that I totally misunderstood your question... yes, the "dah Dah..." thing, because the rest wasn't included on my audio cassette! :D

:) They are ancient instruments indeed, the Oboe's forerunner was the shawm, used to been played around the 16th century. I don't think Oboes ever will become obsolete, they're such timeless instruments. Just listen to the soundtrack of the ep 'The World Of Odin'. As Astro, Dr. Elefun and Cpt Cloud go for investigating the ancient stone plates, there appears this atmospheric instrumental accompaniment. You'll recognize the Oboe immediately when you listen to it.

Apart from Mozart, my favourites still are G. F. Haendel's 'Fireworks Music' and 'Water Music', and also his 'Concerto No. 1'.
Not to mention Franz Listz's 'Le Prelude', which actually should be the anthem for any french 80's Astroboy fan.

So, do you have it already available on your FTP? ;)

I had never heard of this one before, not even by its French name, "chalemie". I've just found out thanks to Wikipedia!

Thanks. I understand now why you like this episode's music so much! :D I've listened to a few pieces with oboes a few days ago, it sounds great.

I just found out that the oboe is the instrument that all other instruments in the orchestra tune to.

That's right, yes. Since Oboes have a smaller tuning range compared to other instruments, the orchestras have to take their "a"- tone as a pattern for tuning.

It is now: KV 594 - Fantasie in F minor (10 Mb)
